i suppose i can now admit that i am the acclimated, thin-blooded californian that the rest of the population points and laughs at in our overbundled selves on the street, scoffs and curses at our ineptness on the highway...and secretly wishes they had the foresight to settle in an area of the country where it rarely dips below 72 degrees. even in december.

change is good

every year i get an itch to completely change my hair. usually in the fall. not sure where the compulsion comes from. perhaps everytime my mother compliments me on my hair by saying, "i really like your hair when it's blonde and fluffy around your face."

my inner teenager kicks right in and rebels.

besides, i lost patience with the whole "growing out my hair" thing. shocking. i know.

anyway, last year it was this. mid-year it looked like this. yesterday it was kind of like this.

dressed up

i got dressed up for the first time in a long time, finally had a chance to throw on the little black dress and a pair of low heels for a benefit for my roommate's work.

the best part of the night was convincing val into her first pair of grown up charles david heels to go with her new dress. unfortunately, being a dirl who never wears heels, they nearly killed her. she still managed to dance up a storm in her bare feet.

i felt partially responsible as i suspect i was vicariously living through her ability to wear 3-inch heels. i have a pair of charles david croc stilettos, that even though i can't walk in them...i like just seeing them in the closet and remembering how much i loved wearing them. *sniff*

artsy fartsy

my roommate val is an artist, a painter to be more specific. she doesn't do it full-time, she's a director at STAR that and develops curriculums for charter schools, but it's definitely a passion.

she tries to sell her stuff at festivals, online, she shows her work in coffee shops and restaurants and puts on a live painting show at a restaurant on the Universal City Walk every saturday.

this weekend, she had a nice little opening for her work at abbot's habit in Venice. it was a great turnout and a wonderful vibe. take a look at some of the photos over here.

the only bummer with her showing her work is that the walls in our apartment are stipped bare for a few months. sigh.
